JOB TITLE: School Safety Officer 

LOCATION: McCoy Elementary School

SALARY: School Safety Office Salary Scale

WORK DAYS: 187 Days – 10 Month Employee 

REPORT TO: Chief of Campus Police

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

The students of the Mississippi Achievement School District (mASD) need your talent, expertise, passion and leadership.

We are seeking highly motivated and innovative practitioners to join our team at the mASD. We seek individuals who are radically relentless about re-envisioning the landscape of public education in Mississippi and making a significant difference in the lives of students, parents, school leaders, teachers, and central office employees.

Currently the mASD serves approximately 4100 students in Yazoo City and Humphreys County in the Mississippi Delta. As part of the state’s comprehensive transformation effort, the mASD seeks to become the model for sustainable school and district improvement in areas of the state that have experienced chronic and entrenched underperformance. Over time, the mASD intends to develop the highest-performing, competitively compensated, and most revered educator workforce in the state known for providing instructional excellence and producing significant outcomes for ALL students.

The district seeks proven instructional leaders with outstanding interpersonal skills who have a passion for working with schools, principals, and communities and who are committed to ensuring all students achieve. Serving a population as diverse as ours requires creativity, commitment, and vision.

POSITION OVERVIEW

We believe that all students can achieve at the highest levels and are committed to providing opportunities that will permit all students to do so. mASD School Safety Officers will provide safe and orderly working environments, which will motivate instructional and support personnel to strive for superior performance to provide the best possible opportunities for student growth and development, both educationally and personally. To accomplish this, we need inspiring leaders who:

  • Are passionate about student achievement and campus safe.
  • Believe that the urgency of closing this gap is too great to accept excuses of any kind.
  • Motivate and support their teachers and staff while holding all adults in the building accountable for ensuring student and staff safety.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: 

The below statements are intended to describe the general nature and scope of work being performed by this position. This is not a complete listing of all responsibilities, duties, and/or skills required. Other duties may be assigned. 

The Security officer Shall:

  • Patrol and monitor hallways, stairwells, outside facilities.
  • Monitor traffic flow of students in hallways and assisting students in assigned location. 
  • Remove disruptive students on a as need bases.
  • Assist in staff, Campus Police, and emergency personnel in handling emergencies situations
  • Asst visitor with direction and secure proper identification.
  • Challenge unauthorized visitors.
  • Report any discipline infractions to Principals
  • Report any unauthorized visitor and acts of vandalism to School Resource Officer
  • Notify the building administration and Chief of Police of any emergency, potentially dangerous, or unusual situations.

Management and Operations

  • Ensure a safe and nurturing environment for students, staff, and families;
  • Comply with all state and federal laws, policies, and collective bargaining agreements. 

Family and Community Engagement

  • Actively advocate for and engage family and community;
  • Strengthen teacher and staff capacity to cultivate and sustain meaningful partnerships with families of diverse backgrounds and with community members that support student achievement and student well-being; and
  • Manage partnerships.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Hold a high school diploma or its equivalent.
  • At least three (3) years successful as a security officer and show evidence of successful experience working with students
  • Hold and maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Have excellent integrity and demonstrate good moral character and initiative.
  • Exhibit a personality that demonstrate interpersonal skills to relate well with students, staff, administration, parents and the community.
  • Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing using proper grammar and vocabulary.
  • Provide evidence that health is adequate to fulfill the job functions and responsibilities, with reasonable accommodation.
